Daryl.
Daryl is a fully qualified, registered Lipreading and Managing Hearing Loss Adult Education tutor.
He has lived experience of hearing loss, and is happy to share what he has learned with you.
He qualified in teaching lipreading at City Lit in Central London, where he taught one-to-one lipreading classes for many years. He now teaches group classes as well, and holds the role of Lipreading and BSL Tutor Co-ordinator within the Deaf Education Department. City Lit is a centre of excellence for Deaf Education and operates the only known Lipreading Teacher Training Course in the world.
Based in London, England he teaches online lipreading courses to students in the UK and overseas.
He is a member of the Association of Teachers of Lipreading to Adults (ATLA).
Nicola.
Nicola is an adult education tutor and is based in Milton Keynes. She currently teaches lipreading for City Lit, Community Learning MK and Lipreading Classes Online.
Nicola became interested in lipreading after an episode of sudden sensorineural hearing loss, which left her with single sided deafness. After attending lipreading classes, she went on to train at City Lit in London and became a qualified lipreading tutor in 2018.
In 2019 Nicola switched careers and went to work full time in the Centre for Deaf Education at City Lit where she taught lipreading along with managing the lipreading tutor team. As part of this role, she also taught Deaf Awareness at The British Museum and lipreading at The Royal Chelsea Hospital.
Nicola has an interest in online and distance learning after 14 years working in higher education at The Open University. She developed lipreading teaching techniques using Zoom and Google Classroom with the team at City Lit.
She is a member of the Association of Teachers of Lipreading to Adults (ATLA) and has delivered talks at their annual conference.
Helen.
Helen is a qualified teacher (PGCE, MAEd) and lipreading tutor who has worked in Education for some 30+ years. She currently teaches face to face lipreading classes in Kent.
Helen brings together her professional training and lived experience of hearing loss in sessions designed to help people develop skills for both Lipreading and Hearing Loss Management.
She is a member of the Association of Teachers of Lipreading to Adults (ATLA).
